I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland in College Park. Prior to joining the faculty at Maryland, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Criminal Justice & Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University at Albany, SUNY, working with Shawn Bushway. As part of my post-doc, I was an embedded scholar in the Office of Justice Research and Performance at the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. 

I completed my Ph.D. at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley in 2013. 

Broadly, my research interests include corrections, causal inference, longitudinal patterns of criminal justice contact, and methodological advances in Criminology and Criminal Justice. One of the major concentrations in my research portfolio is to examine the ways that prison policy shapes individual outcomes both during incarceration and post-release.

I am co-principal investigator on a grant with Jordan Hyatt (Drexel University) to fund the first experimental evaluation of higher education in prison. Read more about the project here.
